Overview
Updated monthly, Current Data is a comprehensive collection of databases that provide customers an easy-to-use web interface in order to analyze vessel owner/operator and vessel characteristic and consequently, make more informed business decisions. Extensively researched, the information has been carefully organized and categorized, with up to 30 data points for each vessel operating in the market.
Operators, for instance, can use the information to understand their competitor’s fleet dynamics and counter maneuver accordingly. Furthermore, industry service providers can use the information Current Data is able to procure in order to create a robust business development program.
Current Data’s ultimate goal is to build databases for commercial vessel types operating under the United States Jones Act. See below for available and upcoming modules:
Inland Tank Barge Module (available)
The inland tank barge module focuses specifically on liquid tank barges operating within the US inland waterway systems, including the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, the Mississippi River and its tributaries, the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, and the Columbia-Snake River System. Generally, inland tank barge capacities range between 10,000 barrels to 30,000 barrels and products transported are clean chemicals, refined products, black oil, pressure products, and agricultural products.
Inland Towboat Module (available)
The inland towboat module focuses on square bow towboats operating within the US inland waterway system. Also known as pushboats, these vessels range from 800 to 10,000 horsepower and are used to transport inland tank barges, inland hopper barges, inland deck barges. They are also used as shift vessels in barge fleeting operations and assist vessels in locking operations.
Coastal Tank Barge Module (available)
The coastal tank barge module focuses on offshore tank barges and harbor tank barges that generally do not compete with the inland sector. Operating areas include Pacific, Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean and major harbors along the coasts. Barge capacities range from under 50,000 barrels to over 200,000 barrels and products moved are clean petroleum products, dirty petroleum products, chemicals, crude oil, and pressure products.
Inland and Offshore Tugboats (available)
The inland and offshore tugboat module focuses primarily on “model bow” vessels operating within the US inland waterway system, and offshore (East Coast, West Coast, Gulf Coast, and the Caribbean). The vessel categories in this module include articulated tugs, offshore tugs, inland tugboats, inland deck lugger tugs, harbor and tractor tugs. Horsepower ranges from 800 to 10,000 and are used in various maritime operations.
Hopper Barges (available)
The hopper barge module focuses on barges dedicated to transporting dry bulk commodities operating within the US inland waterway system, including the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, the Mississippi River and its tributaries, the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, and inland harbors and rivers on the west coast. Typically, these barges are either open top or covered and transport products such as coal, farm products (corn, soybeans, wheat, animal feeds), steel products, construction materials and other types of dry bulk cargo.
Database Format
Current Data’s comprehensive databases provide users with graphical view of the specific vessel fleet in the CHARTS page where each module has between eight and ten charts and graphs as seen below:

DATABASE PAGE
By selecting a specific chart, users move to the database where general information about the vessel is displayed. Refining search criteria is easy by utilizing drop down menus and filtering options. Each search provides average age and vessel count.
VESSEL DETAIL PAGE
By selecting the vessel name, users can view the vessel detail page. Extensively researched, the information in the vessel detail page has been carefully organized and categorized with up to 30 data points for each vessel operating in the market. (Pro Version only)
Subscribers can access this information by selecting one of the following subscriptions:
Standard Version
Provides access to global market information through charts and graphs with limited drill-down and query capabilities.
Pro Version
Provides comprehensive access to global market information through charts and graphs and provides extensive drill-down and query capabilities to better and more easily refine data. The Pro Version has an independent extensive query page with multiple options to refine the search as well as an operator summary page.
